F: nerves Flashcards
Sacral plexus:
lower limb innervation
tibal
common fibular(deep and superficial)
Lumbar plexus:
lower limb innervation,
femoral
obturator
Upper limb innervation:
Brachial plexus
- radial
- axillary
- musculocutaneous
- median
- ulnar
what part of the upper limb does the axillary nerve supply?
deltoid
teres minor
what part of the upper limb does the radial nerve?
posterior arm
posterior forearm
what part of the upper limb does the musculocutaneous nerve supply?
anterior arm
what part of the upper limb does the median nerve supply?
anterior forearm - EXCEPT part innervated by ulnar nerve
what part of the upper limb does the ulnar nerve supply?
flexor carpi ulnaris
medial third of flexor digitorum profundus (digits 4 & 5)
posterior nerves of the brachial plexus:
radial
axillary
anterior nerves of the brachial plexus:
median
musculocutaneous
ulnar
upper arm organisation of nerves:
2 compartments and 4 nerves
Posterior: radial
Anterior: musculocutaneous, median, ulnar
what nerves innervate the lower limb?
2 plexus’
lumbar: femoral and obturator
Sacral: tibal and common fibular(+ deep and superficial)
where do all nerves need to pass through in order to get to the upper limb?
axilla
if you were to palpate the floor of the axilla where would you touch?
where you spray your deodorant
what are the divisions of the brachial plexus?
anterior and posterior
cords of the brachial plexus?
lateral medial posterior
roots of brachial plexus?
C5/C6 = upper trunk C7 = middle trunk C8/T1 = lower trunk
what branch comes from the medial cord of the brachial plexus?
ulnar nerve
what branch comes from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus?
radial
axillary
what branches make the median nerve?
lateral and medial join to do so
what branch does musculocutaneous nerve come from?
lateral
5 must know nerves of the brachial plexus?
- Axillary
- radial
- median
- musculocutaneous
- ulnar
roots C5/6 help to form which trunk of the brachial plexus?
upper! think about it...C5/6 must be higher on the spinal cord than C7 & C8/T1 therefore it must form the upper trunk and C7 the middle trunk and C8/T1 the lower trunk
how could you damage the upper trunk of the brachial plexus?
Erb-Duchenne palsy
shoulder down and head to the side could snap it
how could you damage the lower trunk?
Klumpke’s paralysis
by falling off a cliff and grabbing hold of a tree to stop the fall
yanking that trunk
what nerve of the brachial plexus doesnt extend down the upper limb?
axillary
