NEURO
Internuclear Opthalmoplegia (INO)
Location Affected, Def’n, Mech, Assoc, Seen In (2)?
Damage to MLF.
Disorder of LATERAL conjugate gaze: affected eye can’t adduct, nystagmus in unaffected eye.
MECH: LACK OF COMMUNICATION-
when Abducens nucleus activates ipsilateral Lat Rectus,
contralateral Oculomotor nucleus fails to stim Med Rectus.
ASSOC:
- Demyelination
SEEN IN:
- MS (bilateral)
- Stroke (unilateral)
NEURO
Lisch Nodules
Def’n, Seen In?
Tan Hamartomas of Iris.
SEEN IN:
- NF Type I
NEURO
Argyll Robertson Pupils
Def’n, Seen In?
“Prostitute’s pupils”: accommodate but don’t react.
BILATERAL small pupils that accommodate (reduce in size when patient focuses on near object) but don’t react to light (constrict).
SEEN IN:
- Tertiary Syphilis (Neurosyphilis) + its resulting pathologies (Tabes Dorsalis)
NEURO
Nystagmus
Def’n, Types (3)?
Involuntary eye movements that are rapid, rhythmic + repetitious. “Dancing eyes”.
- Unidirectional vs Bidirectional*
- Horizontal
- Vertical
- Rotary
NEURO
Marcus Gunn Pupil
Def’n, Pres?
Afferent pupillary defect (ie due to optic nerve damage or retinal detachment).
PRES =↓bilateral pupillary constriction when light is shone in affected eye
NEURO
Optic Glioma
