A

Preseptal cellulitis (periorbital), post-septal cellulitis (orbital), subperiosteal abscess, orbital abscess, cavernous sinus thrombosis.

A

Infection of the orbital soft tissues posterior to the orbital septum. Treated inpatient with IV abx.

Staph aureus, S. epidermidis, Strep, anaerobes

When to get a CT scan to differentiate between pre and post-septal cellulitis

A

Decreased ocular motility, other signs of orbital involvement, young child with unreliable examination, concern for post-septal - CT with contrast

A

Orbital floor most easily damaged; give abx if fracture extends to an infected sinus.
