Eye Flashcards
what happens when the eye looks at something near (4)
ciliary muscles contract
suspensory ligaments loosen
lens shape thickens
light is refracted strongly
what happens when the eye focuses on something far
ciliary muscles relax
suspensory ligaments tighten
lens shape thins
light is refracted less
what is longsightedness called
hyperopia
what is wrong with the eye when it has hyperopia
eye is too short so lens can’t thicken enough; point where light rays meet is behind the eye; convex lens in front of eye refracts light more so rays are focused on retina
what is short sightedness called
myopia
what is wrong with the eye when it has myopia
eye ball is too long so lens focuses image in front of retina not on it
