Symmetry and swelling
Lymph nodes
Facial bones
TMJ
what are the elements of the intraoral examination?
Lips
Gingivae
Labial mucosa
Buccal mucosa
Tongue- dorsum and lateral borders
Floor of mouth and ventral tongue
Hard and soft palates
Oropharynx including tonsil
What is attrition?
The loss of tooth substance caused by contact between occluding surfaces caused by parafunction clenching
What is erosion?
The loss of tooth substance by a chemical action
What is abrasion?
Loss of tooth substance caused by abnormal rubbing from a non-dental object eg tooth brush, musical instrument
What is abfraction?
tooth wear at the cervical region due to pressure (not due to caries or bacteria etc…)
