A
charging a suspect and prosecuting them in court to persuade or compel people to abide to the law

if a person does not attend court they can be forced to attend by the police - this is a form of non-violent coercion

if a person has been convicted in the past, as they will have previous experience with the CPS charging them, they won’t want to reoffend
