people are less likely to reoffend if they’re threatened with returning to prison
someone is less likely to commit a crime if they believe the repositions will effect them personally
what sentence links to individual deterrence

what theory does individual deterrence link to
social learning theory - prisons are classified as universities of crime, offenders learn how to commit more crimes from fellow prisoners
what is general deterrence

what’s an example of general deterrence
London riots - 2 men jailed for 4 years due to inciting disorder on Facebook, despite no violence occurring from these posts - so specific to London riots that people are less likely to learn and repeat this crime or similar ones
what’s an example of general deterrence not working
drink driving offences
