define retribution
A
doesn’t look to alter future behaviour but punishes the actions which have taken place. the theory says that crime is a rational choice and if you’re aware of the crime you’re committing then you can real with the consequences of these actions

the maximum prison sentence rose from 5 to 10 years in 1993 and in the criminal justice act 2003 it increased to 14 years
