Exercise Physiology Flashcards
1
Q
What are the goals of exercise physiology
A
- To understand how to enhance physical performance
- To understand how to improve physical function in particular environments, such as a high temperature or high altitude.
- To understand how physical activity and exercise improve health and fitness
- To understand how exercise can be used in treating and preventing disease and alleviating symptoms of disease
- To understand adaptions in human anatomy and physiology in response to physical activity
2
Q
What is the role of the endocrine system
A
the endocrine systems is made out of glands that produce and secrete hormones that regulate the activities of cells and organs
3
Q
What is the role of the renal system
A
produces, stores, and eliminates urine (and other filtered waste products)
4
Q
What is the role of the integumentary system
A
- > protects the body from the outside world
- > critical system in the control of human body temperature
5
Q
What is the role of the lymphatic system
A
- > transport lymph (an infection fighting fluid)
- > help get rid of waste, toxins, and other unwanted materials
6
Q
What is capacity
A
the maximum amount that something can contain
7
Q
All physiologic systems fit into 5 main functions, what are they
A
- Signalling
- > neural, endocrine, lymphatic - Force Production
- > Muscle, skeletal - Energy Production
- > digestive, endocrine - Substrate supply
- > circulatory, respiratory - Waste Removal
- > renal, circulatory, respiratory, integumentary, lymphatic
