Biomechanics Flashcards
biomechanical intervensions
- > slight alterations to technique to optimize movement
when a coach changes your technique
What is biomechanics of physical activity
applies the principles of physics and engineering to the motion, structure, and functionality of all living biological systems
what is the point of biomechanics
to understand how the basic laws of physics affect and shape the structure and function of the human body
what are the two main themes involved in studying biomechanics; briefly explain
Function - > how we produce forces to generate, maintain or slow down movements during physical activity
Structure - > how forces (such as gravity) affect our body tissues
What are Newtons three laws
- every object in a state of motion will stay in that state unless acted upon by an external force
- There is a relation between an objects mass (m) its acceleration (a) and the applied force (F); F = ma
- For every action there is an equal/opposite reaction
explain kinematics
what we are able to observe visually when watching a body in motion
types of teaching/coaching
quantitative (description of major joint muscles)
qualitative (measure of joint angle)
what are kinetics
analysis of the actions of forces
how can we understand movement
by linking kinetics and kinematics to determine forces acting on different segments of the body
How can we asses movement
determining kinematics of a motion
- > naked eye, video, motion capture
determining the kinetics of a motion
- > physics equations
