What speech sound errors are common in children with apraxia?
Distorted sound substitutions and additions
What are the symptoms of apraxia?
Groping, difficulty on volitional tasks and automatic ones, difficulty with multisyllabic words, decreased phonemic accuracy with increased rate, abnormal stress, inconsistent errors on vowels and consonants
What are some differences between dysarthria and apraxia?
In apraxia, less consistent in errors, fewer errors and increased intelligibility by reading fast, better at spontaneous speech than reading
What are the controversial causes of CAS?
Usually don’t know neurological damage that caused it; could be co-morbid with a known neurological condition (cerebral palsy) or neurobehavioral disorder (fragile X syndrome)
