Q

How do you perform a closed, scrotal orchiectomy?

A

Manually push the testicle into the scrotal area. Incise the scrotum down to the level of the parietal layer of the vaginal tunic with a #10 blade. Enlarge the incision and push out the testicle. Strip off the fascia around the cord manually or with gauze. Auto-ligate the cord with a pedicle tie using the overhand technique and a Halsted mosquito hemostat. Transect the testis and remove leaving a .5 cm tag. Use thumb forceps to check for bleeding. Once approved, place back into the scrotum and repeat with the other testicle
