Essential Features of Cloud Computing Flashcards
- On-demand self service
Customers can provision computing resources like server time and network storage on their own, as needed without the need for human interaction with each service provider
- Broad network access
Computing resources can be accessed over the network and support a variety of client platforms like desktop stations and mobile devices
- Resource pooling
Multiple customers are serviced from the same physical resources
- Rapid elasticity
Resources are provisioned or released to customers on-demand, or based on automated triggers and parameters. This ensures the application has the right amount of capacity it needs at any given time
- Measured service
Pay per use system. Usage of resources is measured, monitored, and billed for transparently based on utilization
Service models of cloud computing
3 service models
- Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
When vendors provide customers with pay as you go access to resources such as servers, storage and networking. Customers and organizations will use their own platforms and applications within a service provider’s infrastructure
- Software as a service (SaaS) - where Clio started
When customers are provided access to software applications through the internet (no local installation takes place). Customers subscribe to the software and use the web or vendor APIs to access it
- Platform as a service (PaaS)
When vendors provide customers with a cloud environment where they can develop, manage, and deliver applications. Customers will have access to storage, computing resources, and a suite of prebuilt tools that will allow them to develop, customize, and test their applications
