Erythropoeisis Flashcards
How many days did it take the colony forming unit erythroid (CFU-E) to become erythroblast
It takes 7 days under the stimulation of erythropoietin
How many days does it take Reticulocyte to become matured
1 to 2 days to become an erythrocyte
Life span of red blood cells
100-120days
Erythroid progenitor cell occupies about how much among the bone marrow cells
1/3rd about 33%
Stem cells found in bone marrows are
Uncommitted pluripotent haematopoetic stem cells
Growth factor that stimulates uncommitted PHSC in the bone marrow is
FLT Ligand
Erythropoeisis occurs where
Majorly in the bone marrow then travels to the peripheral blood vessel
Steps in forming a matured erythrocyte
PROERYTHROBLAST

BASOPHILLIC ERYTHROBLAST

POLYCHROMATOPHILLIC ERYTHROBLAST

ORTHOCHROMATIC ERTHROBLAST

RETICULOCYTE
|
MATURED ERYTHROCYTE
Explain the stages of red blood cell formation
1)Proerythroblast: the nucleus is very large, cytoplasm is basophillic and no formation of haemoglobin
2) BASOPHILLIC erythroblast: the nucleus has reduced, no presence of haemoglobin
3) Polychromophillic erythroblast: haemoglobin appears which stain acidic and cytoplasm stain BASOPHILLIC
4)Orthochromatic erythroblast: nucleus disappears, haemoglobin increase well making the cytoplasm acidophillic
5) RETICULOCYTE
After 1 to 2 days MATURED ERYTHROCYTE
Stimulating factors of Erythropoeisis
Hypoxia and Erythropoeitin
What are the maturing factor of red blood cells
Vitamin B12 and folic acid for the maturation of the dna in RBC
Function of vitamin b12 in Erythropoeisis and it’s deficiency
Vitamin b12 is used in the production of dna in RBC
it’s deficiency leads to pernicious anaemia or megaloblastic anaemia
Vitamin b12 is gotten majorly through
And what aids it’s digestion
Diet
And intrinsic factor of castle
Factors needed to produce haemoglobin
1) Iron and copper ( for heme synthesis)
2)Vitamin C ( iron absorption)
3)amino acid ( Globin synthesis)
The transcription factor for erythroid division and growth is
GATA-1 with its cofactor FOG -1
GATA 1 does what
It binds the dna of red blood cells to other protein to cause the division of immature rbc to special
Thallesmia
A condition where there is an abnormal reduction of haemoglobin in the blood
Sickle cell is
An abnormal production of Globin in the blood I.e the haemoglobin count is normal but the quality is not normal
What is erythropoietin
A hormone secreted by the kidney and liver
A circulating glycoprotein
Erythropoietin acts on
Colony formation unit-erythroid
Their receptors appear little on BFU-E
Condition that stimulate Erythropoeisis
High altitude
Cardiac failure
Lung problem
Anaemia
Poor blood flow
Erythropoeitin prevent apoptosis of rbc
TRUE/FALSE
True
Intrinsic factor of castle is gotten from
Gastric juice in our stomach
Deficiency of iron leads to
Microcytic anaemia or hypochromic anaemia
Used in the production of haemoglobin
The receptor for iron intake in Erythropoeisis is
CD71( transferrin receptor)
Erythropoeisis takes a maximum of
14 days in vitro
Formation of pro erythroblast to reticulocyte takes
7 days
