Equipment/beds Flashcards
Tube inserted into the trachea to maintain airway
Tracheal tube
Use of continuous airway pressure for a spontaneously breeding patient. Keeps airway open
Continuous positive airway pressure CPAP
Test that records the hearts electrical activity
Electrocardiogram
Line placed in an artery to monitor blood pressure
Arterial line
Line inserted into vein to obtain venous blood and infuse nutrients and meditation
Intravenous line IV
Catheter placed into large vein to measure central venous pressure, administer meds, obtain blood tests
Central IV
Catheter inserted into pulmonary artery. Detects heart failure or sepsis. Measures heart and pulmonary artery pressure
Pulmonary artery catheter PAC or Swan
Pressure measurements inside the skull in relation to cerebrospinal fluid
Intracranial pressure
Measurement of blood pressure in the thoracic vena cava. Assesses filling of right ventricle
Central venous pressure
Tube inserted into plural space to remove air, fluid, pus
Chest tube
Tube inserted in the nose to stomach
Nasogastric tube
Tube through the abdomen directly to the stomach
Gastric tube

Tube with two nostril openings to deliver oxygen
Nasal cannula
Mask that fits over patients tracheostomy site to deliver oxygen
Tracheostomy mask
Typical hospital bed. Most common. Can be made hard for CPR
Standard adjustable bed
Used when skeletal stability and alignment our desired. Allows one person to turn patient from prone to supine
Turning frame (Stryker Wedge)
Patients who cannot change position on their own. Contains micro-spheres
Air fluidized support bed
Maintains a seriously injured patient in a stable position. Rocks side to side
Post trauma mobility bed
Adjustable air bladders. Patients who require prolonged immobilization
Low air loss therapy bed
What are the three types of traction
– Manual
– Skin
– Skeletal
