Salter Harris type 1
- Epiphyseal plate fracture,
widening of the growth plate with no bony involvement
Salter Harris type 2
Fractures of the metaphysis with or without displacement of the epiphysis
Salter Harris type 3
Fracture of the epiphysis only
Salter Harris type 4
Fracture of both metaphysis and epiphysis
Salter Harris type 5
Impaction and compression of the epiphyseal plate
Description of fractures
- Comminution fracture
- Green stick fracture
- Segmental fracture
- Buckle or torus fracture
Comminution fracture
Fractures which have more than 2 fragments
Segmental fractures
Occur in long bones
* There’re 2 fracture sites with a separate segment of bone between the 2 fractures
Greenstick fracture
- occurs in children
- Only the cortex of one side fractures.
Buckle or torus fracture
Shiwa irregularity of one cortex without a fracture line
Lipohaemathrosis
A condition whereby there’s blood and fat within a joint cavity.
