Enzymes In Breakdown And Synthesis Flashcards
What do enzymes break down?
Big molecules ; proteins, lipids and carbohydrates
What do digestive enzymes do?
They break down the foods into smaller soluble molecules which can pass easily through digestive systems that are absorbed into the blood stream which are passed into cells to be used by the body.
How do plants store energy, what do the do with it?
They store energy in the form of starch they need the energy to break down the starch into smaller molecules. To use them to be respire to transfer energy to be used by cells
What do carboghydrases do ?
They convert carbohydrates into simple sugars. Eg: amylase breaks down starch
What do proteases do ?
Convert proteins into amino acids
What do lipases do?
Convert lipids into glycerol and fatty acids
What can some carbohydrates be synthesised by?
By joining simple sugars
What is glycogen synthase?
An enzyme that joins chains of glucose to make molecules of glucagon (stores energy in animals)
What are lots of enzymes involved in?
The synthesis of lipids from glycerol and fatty acids
How are proteins made?
By joining amino acids together
