Adrenaline And Thyroxine Flashcards
What is adrenaline?
It is a hormone released by the adrenal glands which are located just above the kidney
How does it prepare the body for a flight to fight response?
It binds itself to the heart to specific receptors this causes the heart to contract more.
The heart rate and blood pressure increase
Increased blood flow to the muscles the cells receive more oxygen and glucose for increased respiration
Adrenaline binds to receptors in the liver.vauses it to break down its glycogen stores to release glucose.
Increases blood glucose level more glucose in the blood
What happens when you blood detects a stressful situation?
It sends nervous impulses to the adrenal glands, they secrete adrenaline.this gets the body easy for action.
What does thyroxine do, how is it released?
Released by the thyroid gland, it plays an important role in regulating the metabolic the at the speed which the chemical reaction occurs
A negative feedback system keeps the amount of thyroxine in the blood at the right level. How?
If it is too low = Hypothalamus is stimulates to replace TRH which stimulates the pituitary gland to release TSH
