Enzymes Flashcards
Catalyst
A substance that changes the rate of reaction without changing the substances produced
The catalyst is unaffected by the end of the reaction & can be used again
Enzymes are biological catalyst which control the rate of reaction that occur inside the cell and in whole organisms
Enzyme specificity
Each enzyme will only catalyse a specific reaction or group of reactions
Metabolism
Anabolic reactions
Catabolic reactions
Catabolism
Breakdown of larger molecules
Anabolism
Synthesis of larger molecules
Types of enzymes
Intercellular enzymes
Extracellular enzymes
Intracellular enzymes
The enzyme that catalyse the reactions inside the cells
Extracellular enzymes
The enzyme that catalyse the reactions outside the cells
Intracellular enzymes example
DNA polymerase in DNA replication
Extracellular enzymes example
Carbohydrate decomposition
