Enzymes Flashcards
1
Q
What are enzymes?
A
Enzymes are large proteins that speed up reactions.
2
Q
What is the lock and key theory?
A
- The enzyme has a active site in which the substrate fits into
- The enzyme then breaks or forms different molecules
3
Q
What is the effect of temperature on enzymes?
A
As the temperature increases the rate of reaction increases because of substrates and enzymes colliding more often.
4
Q
What happens if the temperature of enzymes and substrates gets to high?
A
The enzyme denatures and stops working
5
Q
What happens when a enzymes active site is denatured?
A
- When the temperature is to high
- When the PH is too high
6
Q
Where is Amylase produced?
A
- Salivary glands
- Pancreas
- Small intestines
7
Q
What does Amylase react?
