ENGINES Flashcards
Model of the engines
General Electric CF34-8E
How many FADEC
2
What does TOGA do VS MAX?
max provides maximum power for dual or SE operation. TOGA sets takeoff mode and go around mode
2 things needed to shut the engine down
Thrust idle and switch OFF
Describe the engine starter components
2 items. An Air Turbine Starter
Provides means to accelerate the engine to a self sustaining RPM speed.
Starter Control Valve:
Monitored by the FADEC, it opens and closes allowing bleed air to enter and spin the turbine
How many igniters are used for ground starts? air starts?
1Ground 2Air.
What does OVRD function do for the igniters?
turns both igniters on.
Walk the engine through the ground start procedure
2 seconds start ignition 7% n2 fuel 20%n2 second igniter after 15 seconds if no light. shutdown after 30 seconds no light starter cutout after 50%n2
In flight start
identical to ground start but fuel will flow after 15 seconds or 20℅ which ever occurs first
In flight windmill start
fuel will flow at 7.2n2 or 15 seconds whichever is first.
Does FADEC offer any protection for hot starts, hung starts, or failure to light off?
ground yes (how ever it's terminated after n2 falls below 52%) flight no
Can the thrust reversers deploy in flight?
No only on ground
How long after an engine problem is detected will the thrust reversers lock?
after 30 seconds if the trigger is not pulled
What are the functions of the FADEC
engine protection
control of the n1 and max n1
control of the ATTCS
What is the ATTCS and what are its functions?
stands for Automatic Takeoff Thrust Control System and it monitors the engine when it’s engaged (toga position) it commands the use of reserve thrust when one of the following conditions occur:
thrust difference of 15%n1
one engine failure T/O and GA
wind shear.
Can be manually selected by advancing thrust to MAX
