How many phases are in the Candidate Development Program
Six Phases
What is Phase 1
Foundational Knowledge
Candidate receives direction, feedback from mentor
Demonstrate foundational knowledge
Score 70% or better on Phase 1 Written Exam
What is Phase 2
Vehicle Inspection & Cone Course Evaluation
Demonstrate ability to perform pre-trip inspection, document and report maintenance issues, manuever vehicle in controlled environment off public roadway
Training staff will evaluate ability to perform vehicle inspection and successfully manuever through cone course
What is Phase 3
Priority 2 driving
Drive while under the supervision of qualified operator idealy the identified mentor whenever possible
Candidate shall demonstrate at least 10 hours of assessed priority 2 driving
What is Phase 4
Practical Examination
Prepare and Complete a practical examination which reviews candidate’s vehicle knowledge and their ability to operate and drive the vehicle independently
What is Phase 5
Priority 1 Driving
Drive and operate vehicle priority 1 except for incidents with potential to have an IDLH (Per units officers discretion). Minimum 10 satisfactory responses
Appendix H shall be filled out
Appendix G and H shall be uploaded to candidates target solutions credentials
What is Phase 6
Review and Submission
Upload completed training documentation to target solutions

Engine Driver Task Book program goal and objective
To Prepare the candidate to independently drive and operate an engine in a safe, efficient and effective manner
Program Prerequisites
Valid Drivers Liscence
EVDT-3 or EVOC III
NFPA 1002 DPO
Completion of Probationary Program
Unsuccessful Completions Phases 1 2 and 4
Candidate allowed 1 retest after 10 calendar days, retest failure will cause a restart of the task book in no less than 30 days
NFPA for driver continuing education
NFPA 1451
Tire Tread Depth and Dual Spacing
Front Tires 4/32”
Rear Tires 2/32”
Duals are properly spaced apart with no foreign objects in between
Fuel and DEF minimum level
3/4 tank
When Vehicle Battery is turned on, which instrument light shall come on and then turn off
ABS light
Air Brake Alarm
Audible and visual alarms activate between 60-80psi
Parking brake should engage between 20-40
Air Compressor Build-Up
Air Tanks Pressure should build to 100 psi within 60 seconds
Cone Course evaluation Point system
Candidate starts with 100 points and must finish with atleast 70 points
10 points for every cone
3 points for crossing boundary lines
6 points for stopping more than 12” but less than 18”
3 points for stopping more than 6” but less than 12”
Speed and distance behind vehicles maintained
under 40 mph maintain a 4 second distance
Railroad Crossings
Complete stop
motor at idle
Open window and listen for train whistle or noise
Proper Hand Positioning
10 and 2
9 and 3 if airbag equipped
speed while laying supply hose
less than 10 mph
at Intersections, change siren cadence at?
