ENDOCRINE SYSTEM - Pituitary Gland (Hypophysis) Flashcards
What are the parts of the pituitary gland?
Anterior pituitary (Adenohypophysis)
Posterior pituitary (Neurohypophysis)
What are anterior pituitary hormones? Tropic hormones (regulate other glands):
Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) → Thyroid.
Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) → Adrenal cortex.
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) → Gamete production.
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) → Ovarian/testicular hormones.
Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH) → Melanin dispersion.
What are posterior pituitary hormones?
Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH): Water retention, raises BP.
Oxytocin: Uterine contractions, milk ejection.
What are anterior pituitary hormones? Non-tropic hormones:
Growth Hormone (GH) → Muscle, bone growth, metabolism.
Prolactin → Milk production.
