ENDOCRINE SYSTEM Flashcards
Behind the thyroid, produce hormone necessary for metabolism of calcium and phosphorus in the bones.
Parathyroid gland
Sit atop the kidneys, secrete epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine, postpone muscle fatigue, increase storage of sugar, control kidney function, regulate metabolism of salt and water
Adrenal glands
Ovaries and testes produce hormones that govern reproduction and sex characteristics
Gonads
Sits onto of kidneys, secrets epinephrine and noreepinephrine, postone muscle fatigue, control kidney function.
Adrenal glands
In the pancreas, make insulin, allows glucose to enter cells, also produces glucagon to raise glucose levels.
Islets of Langerhans
At the base of the brain, considered to be the master gland. Regulates growth, thyroid and parathyroid gland, pancreas, gonads, metalobism of fatty acids, proteins, blood sugar and urinary excretions.
Pituitary Gland
Cause vessels to constrict (VASOCONSTRUCTION), causes blood to leave area and sweat glands to release sweat.
Alpha 1
Regulate the release of Alpha 1
Alpha 2
Effects all related to the heart, increase heart rate, speed up electrical impulse.
Beta 1
Effects cause smooth muscle to dilate, especially in bronchioles and vessels
Beta 2
T/F Does epinephrine have all 4 properties of Alpha and Beta?
True
This causes primarily A1 A2 effects plus B1 B2 activity that are seen in the blood vsls and skin (cool, pale, clammy)
Norepinephrine
