Blood Ch 7 Flashcards
gives blood itscolor, carry oxygen to the body cells, and carbon dioxide away from the cells
red blood cells
bodys immne system helps defend against infection
white blood cells
the formation of blood clots to stop bleeding
platelets
liquid part of blood that carries blood cells and transports nutrients to all tissues
plasma
Two ways of determining adequate circulation:
pulse and blood pressure
This blood pressure is exerted against the walls of the arteries when th left ventricle contracts
systolic, which measures pumping function of left ventricle
This blood pressure is exerted when left ventricle is at rest, or between contactions
diastolic, which measures resistance in arteries between contractions
swelling occuring in tissue
edema
what is the delivery of oxygen, glucose, nutrients which results from constant circulation of blood through capillarie
perfusion
the insufficient supply of oxygen and other nutrients to some of the body’s cells and the inadequate elimination of carbon dioxide and other waste that result from inadequate circulation of blood
hypoperfusion
Oxygen is carried through the blood in 2 ways
attached to hemoglobin & dissolve in plasm
Carbon dioxide is carried through the blood in 3 ways
attached to hemoglobin & dissolve in plasm & bicarbonate
Arobic means
with oxygen
anaerobic metbolism means
without oxygen, process of metabolizing glucose without producing much energy
