what is the thyroid gland?
helps control metabolism and other energy levels
what is the pineal gland?
pea shaped gland located in the brain and may have to do with sexual development
what is the adrenal gland?
located at the top of each kidney and secretes several hormones, including adrenaline
what are the pituitary glands?
controls endocrine glans (and puberty), regulates growth, BP and water balance
what is the pancreas?
produces insuline and glucagon to help control glucose levels in blood
what is the thymus?
located near the heart and help immune function, especially during childhood
what are the parathyroids?
four small glands that regulate calcium and phosphorus
what are the testes?
produce testosterone and sperm cells
what are the ovaries?
produces egg cells, estrogen, and progesterone
what is the hypothalamus?
the link between the nervous system and endocrine system
what is a hormone?
your body’s chemical messengers
what are target cells?
target have receptors that attract hormones
how does the endocrine system work as a negative feedback loop?
keeps homeostasis by sensing if there’s too much of one hormone in the body or too little
