Social Impact of Unemployment
-Its characterised by poverty, debt and homelessness
-It may negatively affect a person’s relationship with her family, friends and community members
-Leading to social ills such as crime, drug abuse and rape as a way to escape from the harsh reality of poverty
The economic impact of Unemployment
People do not have an income and this results in lower expenditure
The psychological impact of unemployment
It’s been linked with a number of psychological disorders particularly anxiety and depression as well as degradation
-It may lead to substance abuse and dangerous behaviours including suicide and violence toward family members and the community
-It may have devasting effects on an individual, community and society because an individual may find themselves having to support many family members
Poor education
Lack of skills and education makes it hard for people to find employment
Labour laws
Overly protective labour laws make it less attractive to hire new staff which makes it very difficult to dismiss or retrench workers and are therefore less keen to employ people
Poverty
Poverty and the resultant social issues incapacities and discourage the job search and access to labour markets
Infrastructure
People who live in rural areas experience barriers
-People have a general lack of formal labour market information and often do not have access to technology to help people searching for jobs meaning that job searches are expensive, difficult and high-risk for those with no resources and little cash

Volunteering meaning
Helping others by giving your time and skills without expecting payment
Volunteer
-It makes you feel good about yourself because you are doing something for somebody else which builds confidence
-It allows you to explore your interests, abilities and skills which might make it easier for you to choose a career
-It’s not only about helping people it also adds to your CV as experience
Part-time jobs
-Working for a short while can help you gain a lot of experience because you have more than one job at a time
-You can become skilled in different aspects of work while adding income and building your CV
Community work
Doing something that will benefit the community or a community in need is a form of volunteering but you instead concentrate on the needs of the community
-The work is usually paid for by government or an NGO
Entrepreneurship
-To be an entrepreneur you have to see a need and provide a service
-It’s a great way to earn money while you look for other work opportunities
-If your entrepreneurship leads to success, you may turn this into your day-to-day job and also employ others
