What is emergency contraception?
Broad term to describe drug of device used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse
Two progestogen only plan B types
- Plan B: two 0.75 mg doses 12 hours apart
- Plan B One-Step: one 1.5 mg dose
Effectiveness of emergency contraception pill
- 61-95%
- If taken within 24 hours it is 95% effective
- If taken between 48 and 72 hours it is 61% effective
