Elements of Life: Making Salts & Precipitation Reactions Flashcards
1
Q
How do you make soluble salts
A
Metal / insoluble base + acid
2
Q
Rhyme for stages of making soluble salt from insoluble base + acid eg. Copper sulphate ( blue crystals )
A
- Heat acid gently
- Add insoluble substance until it no longer reacts ( in excess )
- Filter off leftover insoluble substance
- Heat solution to evaporate some water until crystals start to form
- Leave solution to cool- more crystals form as cools
- Filter off and wash the crystals of the salt
- All the crystals to dry
