Electrolysis Flashcards

1
Q

What happens when an ionic compound is melted or dissolved in water?

A
  • Forces of attractions are broken and ions are able to move.
  • Liquids and solutions can conduct electricity.
  • These liquids or solutions are called:
  • Electrolytes.

Q

Structure of electrolysis?

A
  • 2 electrodes (made of a conducting material).
  • Negative electrode= Cathode (covered in electrons).
  • Positive electrode = Anode (Lack of electrons).
  • Positive ions are attracted to the Cathode.
  • Negative ions are attracted to the Anode.
