EKG
traces the electrical activity of the heart
Atrioventricular Node (AV Node)
the electrical relay station between the upper and lower chambers of the heart; stimulated after the sinoatrial node fires
Sinoatrial Node (SA Node)
the human “pacemaker” is located in the right atrium of the heart
Electrodes
small pads or patches that are attached to the skin and connected to the leads (ensure skin is clean and dry; may hold down leads with cloth tape if needed)
Holter Monitor
worn by a patient for 24 hours to evaluate heart function; patient must not bathe or shower to prevent electrodes from getting wet
Leads
an electrical connection attached to the body to perform an EKG
Ground Lead
placed on the right leg
Precordial Leads
placed on the chest
