Electrical System Flashcards
What happens if you push the GEN 1 LINE pushbutton (turning it off)?
Generator 1 line contactor opens. Generator 1 powers a fuel pump in each wing tank.
What is the difference between using the RAT MAN ON pushbutton on the EMER ELEC PWR panel and using the RAT MAN ON pushbutton HYD panel?
Using the pushbutton on the EMER ELEC PWR panel deploys the RAT, pressurizes the blue hydraulic system, and couples the emergency generator to the AC ESS and DC ESS (opens two valves). Using the pushbutton on the HYD panel deploys the RAT, but does not provide emergency electrical power. It is dedicated to pressurizing the blue hydraulic system only (opens one vale.)
During the initial flight deck preparation, when you check the battery voltage, what is the minimum voltage you are looking for?
When the aircraft has been unpowered and the batteries have been at rest (no charge) for at least six hours, the minimum is 25v
What causes the RAT to deploy automatically?
Loss of AC buses 1 and 3 above 100 kts
If AC bus 1 and AC bus 2 have failed, what busses are still powered before the RAT has fully extended and before the emergency generator starts working?
BAT 1, BAT 2, both Hot Battery busses, AC ESS BUS, and the DC ESS BUS.
Which displays are available to fly the aircraft in this case?
Captain’s PFD and E/WD
Once the RAT extends and the emergency generator starts working, what other busses are powered and what other displays are working?
Additionally, both AC and DC ESS SHED busses are powered by the RAT generator. The Captain’s ND and the #1 MCDU are now powered as a result.
With the RAT powering these busses, which displays will be working?
Captain’s PFD and upper ECAM from the AC ESS bus, Captain’s ND from AC ESS SHED bus, and #1 MCDU from the DC ESS bus. Note: #1 VOR/ILS (raw data), RMP #1, ACP #1, FMGC #1, would also work.
What happens to the RAT generator, in the emergency electrical configuration, when the gear is extended on the A320?
Earlier RAT: The RAT generator drops off line and the electrical system reverts to battery power only. ESS SHED busses are shed and the Captain’s ND and the #1 MCDU are unpowered.
New RAT: Electrical system remains in the emergency electrical configuration until touchdown. Electrical system reverts to battery power below 125 kts.
If you execute a missed approach, will the emergency generator automatically reconnect to the busses when the gear is retracted?
Earlier RAT: No, the emergency generator can be recoupled once the gear is retracted above 140 kts. with the RAT & EMER GEN pushbutton.
New RAT: The emergency generator remains coupled.
What does the red FAULT light on the Emergency Electrical Power panel indicate?
The emergency generator is available and not being used. It will be accompanied by two MASTER WARN lights and a continuous repetitive chime. Push the MAN ON pushbutton, after confirmation, to recouple the emergency generator.
If you are able to restore normal AC power, for example, you are able to get #1 and/or #2 generator operating again, will the emergency generator continue to power the ESS busses?d
Yes, until the nose gear is extended (old RAT) or upon landing below 125 knots (New RAT).
