Alternate Law Flashcards
How can you tell the aircraft is in “Alternate Law”?
ECAM F/CTL ALTN LAW (PROT LOST). Amber Xs replace normal law = signs and alpha protection/ alpha max are replaced by Vsw on the PFD. Alpha protection indications on speed tape change.
Describe what is meant by “Speed Stability” when the aircraft is in alternate law.
High Speed Stability - Initiates a nose up command if speed exceeds Vmo/Mmo (This command can be overridden by the sidestick.) Low Speed Stability - Initiates a gentle nose-down command as the aircraft approaches Vsw. (This command can be overridden by the sidestick.)
Can you stall the aircraft in alternate law?
Yes… Alpha protections are lost.
Will the aircraft stay in alternate law until you land?
It depends. No, if degrade was due to failures of redundant systems further degradation would result in direct law upon gear extension and autopilot disconnect. Yes, degrade was a result a abnormal attitude recovery.
Is there any way to keep the aircraft from going into “Direct Law” when the gear is extended?
Yes… If an autopilot is engaged, the aircraft remains in alternate law.
What are the indications that the aircraft is now in “Direct Law”?
The same indications as alternate law with the addition of the amber USE MAN PITCH TRIM FMA.
Why does the ECAM display “USE MAN PITCH TRIM”?
In direct law the horizontal stabilizer auto pitch trim feature is lost and must be trimmed manually with the trim wheel.
If you get an ECAM displaying “MAN PITCH TRIM ONLY” (red), what does that mean?
The aircraft is in mechanical back-up.
What flight controls still work in “Mechanical Back-Up”?
Rudder and horizontal stabilizer.
Will those flight controls still work without hydraulic pressure available?
NO…
