*Electrical-Electric Panel Flashcards
*How do we check the battery voltage and charging system?
(6)
-Select ECAM ELEC page.
-Place BAT 1 + BAT 2, pb to OFF then ON.
-Check that both battery charge currents drop below 60 amps within 10 sec.
*Will the batteries completely drain if you leave the BAT switches to AUTO, after the AC power is removed?
-NO
-Battery cut-off logic prevents complete discharge when the aircraft is on the ground unpowered (22VDC).
*How is the BATTERY BUS normally powered?
DC BUS 1 through DC bus tie contactor.
*What does the amber FAULT light in the GALLEY pb indicate?
At least 1 generator load is above 100% rated output.
*How does the GALLEY pb work in AUTO?
Sheds main galley and in-seat power supply if:
-Inflight with only one generator (APU or ENG) is running in flight.
-On ground, only 1 ENG gen is running (All galleys are available when APU GEN or EXT PWR is supplying power.)
*What does a FAULT on the ENG GEN pb indicate?
A fault is detected by the GCU, which could mean:
-Overload
-Under/Over Voltage
-Differential fault (short), and/or,
-The generator line contactor is open
When is it normal to see the ENG GEN FAULT light illuminated?
Prior to engine start.
*What does the APU GEN FAULT light indicate?
The GCU has detected a fault. The generator line contactor is open.
*What is the function of the BUS TIE in the AUTO position?
4
-Allows the BUS TIE CONTACTORS to open and close automatically to maintain power to both AC BUS 1 and 2.
-Allows a single source to power the entire system.
-Allows connection of the APU GEN or EXT PWR to the system
-Inhibits multiple sources to connect simultaneously.
What is the logic with the BUS TIE in the OFF position?
The only power source that can be applied to AC Bus 1 and 2 is their respective Engine Driven Generator. EXT power, APU gen, and opposing gen cannot power the network.
What does IDG stand for?
Integrated Drive Generator
What is the function of the IDG?
Converts variable engine speed to constant speed for optimum generator operation.
Is the IDG oil system separate form the engine oil system?
YES
What cools IDG oil?
Fuel/Oil cooler that utilizes fuel flow from the associated engine’s fuel supply line.
*What does an IDG FAULT light indicate?
-Oil pressure low, (inhibited when N2 below 14%).
-Oil outlet temp high.
-Light is inhibited when IDG is disconnected.
*What precautions must you take when disconnecting an IDG?
To avoid damage to the disconnect mechanism:
-Do not disconnect when the engine is not operating or windmilling, AND
-IDG pb should not be pressed for more than 3 seconds.
*What is the function of the AC ESS FEED pb in the normal position?
-Allows AC BUS 1 to power the AC ESS BUS.
-If AC BUS 1 is lost AC BUS 2 automatically feeds the AC ESS BUS.
*What does the AC ESS FEED pb white light indicate?
The AC ESS BUS is supplied by AC BUS 2
What does a BAT FAULT light indicate?
Battery charging current is outside limits (BAT contactors opens).
*When would you expect to see the batteries connected to the Battery Bus?
(3)
-APU Start
-Battery Charging
-AC BUS 1 and 2 unpowered (>100 kts), and emergency generator not supplying power
*With the APU green AVAIL light ON, and the EXT PWR blue ON light illuminated, which system is powering the aircraft?
EXT PWR
*What is the significance of green, red, and black circuit breakers on the flight deck?
Green-Monitored by the ECAM system and will generate and ECAM if tripped
Red-Crew cannot reset (ex: Wing Tip Brakes)
Black-Not monitored, no ECAM message generated if tripped.
*When is the APU GEN Fault light inhibited?
-APU speed low
-Line contactor open after EXT PWR or ENG GEN takes over.
*How is AC ESS FEED transferred from AC BUS 1 to AC BUS 2?
Manually by selecting ALTN on the AC ESS FEED pb or automatically if AC BUS 1 is lost and the switch is in the normal position.
*What does the AC ESS FEED pb white ALTN light indicate?
AC BUS 2 is powering the AC ESS BUS.
*What is the purpose of the static inverter?
To provide AC power to the AC ESS bus from the battery when the EMERG GEN is not online when in the Emergency Electrical Configuration.
*What is the priority sequence for electrical power (GEARB)?
G- Generators (engine)
E- EXT PWR
A- APU GEN
R- RAT Emergency Gen
B- Batteries
*What buses are powered by the emergency generator?
AC ESS and AC ESS SHED
DC ESS and DC ESS SHED
*How can the IDG be reset?
On the ground by MX only.
