Elbow/forearm/hand Pathology Flashcards
Which one affects lateral epicondylitis
Tennis elbow
Which one is more elbow flexion injury
Golfers elbow
Tennis/golfers elbow cause
Repetitive stress
Tennis elbow Sx
- pain from gripping/movements (extension)
- possible morning stiffness
Golfers elbow Sx
- pain from gripping/movements (flexion)
- sometimes entrapment of ulnar nerve-> neuropraxia
Which one is a extension injury
Tennis elbow
Alt name for acute/chronic tennis/golfers elbow
Acute- tendonitis
Chronic- tendonosis
Which one affects the medial epicondyle
Golfers elbow
Which nerve is affected in carpel tunnel
Median nerve
Carpel tunnel Sx
1) intermittent numbness (thumb, index, middle/radial side of thumb/ring finger)
2) night numbness (sleep position)
3) atrophy of thenar eminence and sensory loss in digits
Etiology of carpel tunnel
Idiopathic
Predisposition for carpel tunnel
1) diabetes
2) obesity
3) pregnancy
4) oral contraceptives
5) hypothyroidism
6) narrow diameter carpel tunnel
7) benign tumor
Pathophysiology of carpel tunnel
Repetitive flexion/extension increases fluid pressure in through thickening of synovial tissue that lines tendons
Differentiate for carpel tunnel
Neuropathy
Dupuytrens contracture
Contracture of palmar fascia-> flexion deformity
-MCP/PIP of 4/5 fingers
