Q

How do you find the EF

A
  1. Make sure everything totals to 100%
  2. Percentages become the weight (m)
  3. Find molecular mass of cmpds (M)
  4. Find mols
  5. Divide mols by the mole with the lowest value
  6. Round up or down and attach to base cmpd

Q

How to find the MF

A

Same steps as EF until you get to finding the actual EF. Use the found EF and get its molar mass. Use equation (experimental M/empirical M) to find the molecular mass. Times that number you got from the equation by the whole EF. And done!

Q

How to find fomula of hydrates?

A

Find percent of water: (subtract total m from water, mass of water/total compd m × 100 = %.

Find X:
1. Find mols of each separate cmpd (find mols for Ba(OH) as a whole and find mols for H2O) (m over M)
2. Divide mols by the smallest mole
3. Put those found numbers into base formula. Make sure they’re whole numbers!
