Earth Science Finals Flashcards
What is the function of nitrates?
Responsible for protein synthesis and new tissue production
What are the four soil macronutrients?
Nitrates (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K) , and pH
What does a deficiency of nitrates cause?
Stunted growth and yellow leaves
What does a surplus of nitrates cause?
Overabundant foliage, delayed flowering, and poor fruit quality
What are the functions of phosphurus
Part of DNA/RNA and seed development. Increases fruit development, vitamin content, and aids the plants resistance to disease and winter kill.
What does a deficiency of phosphorus cause?
Stunted growth and seed sterility
What are the functions of potassium on plant growth?
Strengthens the plant. Helps form carbohydrates and proteins. Improves the color and flavor of the fruit.
What does a deficiency of potassium cause?
Poorly developed root system, stunted growth, and low yields
What movement, fault type, and stress do convergent plate boundaries cause?
Two plates slamming together creates compression and a reverse fault
What movement, fault type, and stress do divergent plate boundaries cause?
Pulling apart creates tension and a normal fault
What movement, fault type, and stress do transform plate boundaries cause?
Sliding past each other creates a shear force and a strike-slip faut
What fault type and stress/force creates folded mountains
Compression on a Reverse fault (on a convergent plate boundary)
What fault type and stress/force creates fault block mountains?
Pulling apart on a normal fault (on a divergent plate boundary)
3 main events that created glacier national park
- Sedimentation
- Faulting/ Uplift
- Glaciation
What type of volcano do divergent plate boundaries cause?
Fissure
