when does perforation of the ear drum usually occur?
Commonly due to Acute Otitis Media
May also occur after trauma
Usually heals spontaneously
What are some complications of acute otitis medi/ cholestetoma?
•Medially
→Sensorineural Hearing Loss /Tinnitus / Vertigo / Facial Palsy
•Superiorly
→Brain Abscess / Meningitis
•Posteriorly
→Venous Sinus Thrombosis
Detail some drugs that can cause sensorineural hearing loss
Certain drugs well known to cause Sensorineural Hearing Loss
→Gentamicin and other aminoglycosides
→Chemotherapeutic drugs - Cisplatin, Vincristine
→Aspirin and NSAIDs (in overdose)
