Ear anatomy (3) Flashcards
What is the auricle?
Shell shaped projection surrounding the opening of the external acoustic meatus
What is the helix?
Posterior to the auricle, but its thicker
What is the lobule?
Earlobe, lack cartilage
What is the external auditory meatus?
Short, curved tube that goes from auricle to eardrum
What 2 parts are in the external auditory meatus?
Cercuminous glands and tympanic membrane
What is the cercuminous glands?
Produce earwax
What is the tympanic membrane?
Eardrum, hit by sound waves, divides the outer and middle ear
Where is the oval window?
Deep to stapes
What are the 3 ossicles?
Malleus, incus and stapes
Malleus looks like what?
A hammer
What does the incus look like?
An anvil
Where is the incus?
Next to the malleus
What 2 muscles are associated with the ossicles?
The tensor tympani and the stapedius
Where is the tensor tympani muscle?
Arises from the pharyngotympanic tube and attaches to the malleus
Where is the stapedius muscle?
Runs from the posterior wall of the middle ear to the stapes
