Q

+ & - of employee share ownership

A

+ improved loyalty to the business- reduces labour turnover
+ easy to implement
- may be too long term for some employees
- wont directly impact the performance of individual employees

the strategy of employee share ownerships links closely with the theorist TAYLOR because he believes that money motivates- people only work to maximise their income. “a fair days pay for a fair days work”

Q

+ & - of empowerment strategies

A

+ greater responsibility and provides opportunities for advancement
+ can get the best out of the workforce by making use of talents and ideas
- training need
- risky- the business can loose control and coordination.

this empowerment strategy links to 2 theorists: MAZLOW with the hierarchy if needs and HERZBURG, with the 2 factor theory, hygiene and motivators.

MAZLOW: believes that humans have 5 sets of needs, arranged into a hierarchy, basic needs at the bottom (physiological needs), higher level of needs at the top (self-actualization)
HERZBURG: employees would feel more motivated doing something because they want to rather than to get a reward or avoid a punishment. he believes that motivated workers perform at their best
