DTaP, Tdap, and TD Flashcards
Diptheria and types of vaccines
Sx is caused by a toxin
DTaP and DT - children under 7
Tdap and Td - older children through adults
Tetanus
Lockjaw
Caused by toxin
Tx is tetanus immune globulin or IVIG
Pertussis
Whooping cough
Pertussis toxin vaccine…also specific for other parts
How does toxin vaccine work?
Normally, toxin binds celullar receptors, tkaen in and then toxin redistributed…HERE, the AB binds the toxin so it cannot bind to and enter cells
IgA function
Dimeric IgA transported into gut lumen through epithelila cells…it binds to layer of mucus in the gut and can then nuetralize pathogens
Vaccine scheulde
DTap - infants (2 mos to 4-6 years…5 doses)
Booster with Tdap at 11 years
TD every 10 years after than
Preg - Tdap between 27-33 weeks
Maternal antibodies
IgG crosses placenta
Dimeric IgA through breat milk
