A

Will pull the left pulmonary artery behind the ehart and won’t be able to see it

Will also lose right angle of heart and diaphragm

Obstructive atelectasis

A

Will appear concave

Involved lung is denser and less air

Post-obstructive pneumonia…normally opacified lung that conforms to lung segment WITHOUT air bronchograms

A

Exudates vs transudates

A

Ex - inflammation or neoplasia of the pleural surfaces produces capillary leakage (loculated)

Trans - increased HS or decreased oncotic pressure produces leakage of protein POOR fluid

Free-flowing and bilateral…hepatic hydrothorax

Diff pneumonia and atelectasis

A

Fever, leukocytosis, pleuritic chest pain and purulent sputum - pneumonia, NOT atelectasis
