Alterations in nutritional status that can affect a drug’s metabolism and/or some drugs can affect nutritional status.

A
THe combined effect is greater than the sum of the individual effects.

Antagonistic
A
interaction of two or more substances such that the actin of any one of them on living cells or tissues is lessened.

Factors that affect the risk of such synergistic and/or antagonistic interactions include:
A
- age or gender
- the disease condition or conditions under treatment can affect nutrient absorption and utlization
- timing of meals on drug administration
- duration of administration
- drug form (pill, liquid) and route (orally, enteral, IV)
- dosage and frequency of administration
- number of drugs being administered concurrently
- diet quality
- nutritional status and/or body composition
- use of dietary/herbal supplements
