Drug Interactions with Receptors and Ion Channels (Drugs) Flashcards
What are the molecules that disrupt G-protein cycle?
- Cholera toxin (CTX): Inhibits GTPase activity of αs, causing chronic activation of pathway.
- Pertussis toxin (PTX): ADP-ribosylates αi and inhibits stimulation, causing ‘whooping cough’.
- AlF4-: Mimics γ-phosphate and causes chronic activation of G-proteins. It is used as an insecticide.
What is the role of lithium in PLC pathway?
Inhibits inositol-1 phosphotase and thus inositol recycling in the brain.
