Requirements to get immunization certification
Complete APhA immunization training course within the last 3 years
Get CPR certified
Be currently licensed and registered in NYS
(this also applies to out-of-state/endorsement pharmacists who are trying to get licensed in NYS- if they were certified in another state they can immunize here)

Can RPhs/interns administer LAIs for mental health disorders?
Yes, as long as they have an I on their license/permit
Do you need a prescription in order to give an LAI?
Yes
Is there additional training needed to give an LAI?
No, just make sure to take CE related to treating patients in this area of medicine
Is patient consent required for an intern to give an LAI to them?
Yes; if the patient says no, the RPh has to do it
Criteria a patient needs to meet before they can get their LAI given by an RPh
First dose is given in medical office and they give the okay for maintenance treatment to begin
When do you have to notify the patient’s prescriber that the LAI was given?
Within 5 days, but ideally, just let them know immediately
When do you have to notify the patient’s prescriber that the LAI’s dose was missed?
Within 72 hours
What should an RPh do if a patient experiences a life-threatening reaction to an LAI?
Give anaphylaxis treatment
Document the reaction
Call local emergency services and inform them of what anaphylaxis treatment was given
Inform the prescriber of the reaction
Can RPhs give PEP treatment? If so, how many days’ supply?
Yes, they can give up to a 7 days’ supply pursuant to a non-patient specific order and protocol
Naloxone: do you need a patient-specific order for this?
No, it’s currently under a standing order (as of August 2024); all pharmacies can dispense Narcan via a non-patient specific order
Is a prescription required for Narcan?
No, it’s available OTC but there is an N-CAP program that will cover up to $40 in copays if you have a prescription for it
Do you need to apply to NYSDOH to dispense Narcan?
No, at least not while the standing order is still in effect

Can dispense insulin and related supplies under a non-patient-specific order for a patient whose insulin prescription expired within the last 12 months
Who has to write the insulin script in order for the patient to get it without a new script?
Physician or NP
What does a pharmacist have to do first before dispensing insulin without a new script?
Make a good faith effort to get authorization from the prescriber for the patient-specific script but failed
How much insulin can a pharmacist dispense?
A refill’s supply that doesn’t exceed 30 days pursuant to the original script
When do you report to the prescriber about the fact you dispensed an emergency supply of insulin?
Within 72 hours
