Donor Phlebotomy
Locate vein, cleanse site
Organize equipment
Perform phlebotomy
Adverse Donor Reactions
Most are small hematomas and mild vasovagal reactions
Dizziness, apprehension, nausea, vomiting, pallor, sweating, hypotension, bradycardia
Stop donation and do not leave the donor
Severe cases have syncope and convulsions
Physical Requirements
Age: over 16 years
Weight: min 110 Ibs
Donation interval: 8 weeks after whole blood donation
Temp: 37.5C
Hgb/Hct: 12.5 g/dL, 38%
Blood pressure: under 180 systolic, under 100 diastolic
Pulse: 50 to 100 bpm
Required Donor Testing
ABO, Rh, weak D, antibody screen
Transmissible disease testing
HBV, HVB, HIV 1/2, HTLV, Syphilis
