What type of questions are better at screening for domestic abuse?
Specific questions
‘Because violence against women is so common in our society, I ask all my women patients about partner abuse. Is anyone close to you threatening or hurting you? Is anyone hitting, kicking, choking or hurting you physically? Is anyone forcing you to do something sexually that you do not want to do?’
If women discloses she is being abused
Acknowledge her experience - inform not alone, no-one deserves to be abused.
Saftey assessment
- Weapon, threats to skill you, do you feel safe to go home now?
Sign-post to women aid
Referral
Safety planning - place of saftey, make copies of all important documents and keep outside the home
Documentation - not in handheld notes if puts women at risk.
