Describe DNA extraction
A
Cells are lysed using a detergent to disrupt the plasmid membranes
The cell contents are treated with protease to destroy protein and RNase to destroy RNA
Centrifuge and the supernatant contains DNA
DNA is precipitated with ethanol to a white solid
[DNA] determined using spectrophotometry where A260/A280 ratio indicated high DNA purity
