Q

What are the types of blood vessels?

A
  1. arteries - transport blood away from the heart
they have thick walls that can withstand the high pressure of blood from the heart
  2. veins - transport blood to the heart
they have thin-walls with large irregular lumens
  3. capillaries - connect arteries and veins
the level where nutrients are exchanged

Q

what makes up the walls of blood vessels?

A
  1. tunica intima - inner epithelial lining
  2. tunica media - middle smooth muscle layer
(arteries have multiple layers of smooth muscle)
  3. tunica externa - outer connective tissue layer
