Catholics who are separated are expected not to cohabit with anyone else. if they do they are not allowed to receive Holy Communion during mass.

  • issue if a divorced Christian wants to remarry.
  • Anglican church divorce is accepted but remarriage of a divorced person is left to the personal decision of a minister.

what is annulment

A

when a court says your marriage is not legally valid. The Catholic Church teaches that annulment is the only acceptable way a marriage can end.

An annulment may be granted when married couple have not had sex, or where it is proved the marriage should not have taken place.

muslim views on divorce

  • married couples experiencing conflict should try to reconcile.
  • an imam and the Muslim community would seek to try and help a couple.
  • Muslims reluctantly accept that reconciliation is not always possible, so do accept divorce.
  • Muslims are free to remarry in future.

-marriage must be ended in the eyes of God. They can
apply to a Shari’ah council to obtain an Islamic divorce.

-A period of three months begins (lddah). The couple will stay in the same house but not sleep together. (This ensures that there is no confusion about who is the father of any children born after the divorce.)
At the end of this period a religious divorce is granted.
